The highly competitive Ascent Program [Advanced Placement and LPN-BSN Program] enables students with the right coursework to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in as little as five semesters.

Who should consider the Ascent Program?

The Ascent program is an innovative program that provides individuals who are Licensed Practical Nurses an appealing option for earning the BSN (LPN-BSN Transition) in addition to providing students who have earned the prior science and humanities credits a timely option for earning a BSN.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the Ascent Program, a student must:

  • Successfully complete required prerequisite courses, with a grade of “C” or better (a grade of C- will not be accepted) from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrate a minimum cumulative college GPA, based on all prerequisite coursework taken, of at least 3.0.
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores, if English is not your native language (a minimum score of 79 on the internet-based test is required)
  • LPN to BSN applicants only – holds an unrestricted LPN License in the State of Ohio.

  • SCIE 124: Anatomy & Physiology II
  • SCIE 103: Organic Biochemistry
  • SCIE 125: Microbiology
  • ENGL 110: English Composition
  • PSYC 101: General Psychology+
  • PSYC 225: Human Growth & Development+
  • SCIE 220: Nutrition+**
  • SCIE 230 & 231: Physiologic Alterations I & II**

**Those who do not have credit for SCIE 230 & 231 and or SCIE 220 may be considered for Summer (May) semester admission. SCIE 220, 230 & 231 will then be integrated into the plan of study.

+Credit awarded based on LPN professional licensure and prior training.

Program Start Times

There are two opportunities to start the Ascent program. Students may start during the Spring (January) or Summer (May) semesters.

Course Delivery

The Ascent program is a blend of fully online, hybrid and campus-based courses. The blend of course delivery supports schedule balance during the program of study. Most courses are 8 weeks in length. Students can expect to be on campus for class, lab or clinical 2 to 3 times per week depending on the course and term. Advanced notice for classes, labs and clinical days and times supports students’ planning and success.

The Mount Carmel College of Nursing Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program prepares graduates to take the National Council Licensure Examination Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
