MCCN Well-Represented at 2019 Nurses Day

Eighty-six Nightingales attended the 2019 Nurses Day at the Statehouse on March 6! There were 47 Nurse Practitioner students, 22 students from MCCN-Lancaster Health Policy class, two undergraduate students from the Columbus campus, and 15 faculty and staff. A two-minute sponsor talk was given by MCCN assistant professor, Jennifer Wolfe, MSN, APRN, CNP.

American Red Cross Blood Drive

The Student Nurses Association of Mount Carmel (SNAM) is sponsoring a blood drive TODAY in the College Gym. Walk-ins are welcome, appointments are preferred. Click here to make your appointment!

Boosting Your Financial Health & Credit

Join the Business Office on Monday, March 18, at noon in the College Lounge, as Donna McCray from Fifth Third Bank discusses ways to boost your credit score and how having good credit benefits your financial health. The workshop is FREE for all MCCN students, faculty and staff. Lunch will be provided.

March Madness at MCCN

Celebrate the start of March Madness on Wednesday, March 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the College Gym. Students can shoot hoops, create brackets with their winning teams, engage in basketball trivia and more! The Office of Student Life will provide lunch, including chicken wings, vegetables, chips and dessert.

SNAM Meeting

The Student Nurses Association of Mount Carmel (SNAM) will be meeting on Monday, March 25, from noon to 1 p.m. in CLE 103.

Higher Learning Commission Forums

The Higher Learning Commission will conduct its 10-year survey at MCCN in April. Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend a forum on one of these dates:

MCCN students will have the opportunity to “Go Wild for Wellness" on Monday, April 15, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Pitabilities food truck will be out front during the event and there will be massage therapy, horse therapy, pet therapy, zoo animals, prizes and giveaways! All free for students!

Spring Interfaith Prayer Service

Join Campus Ministry for the Spring Interfaith Prayer Service on Monday, April 22, at noon in the College Lounge. Themes of prayer, mercy and new life were inspired by the sacred events of Passover, Easter and Lailat al Miraj. Event participants include the members of the dance ministry of Bakhita from St. Dominic’s Church; MCCN Choir, led by Mary Yoder; and Mike Roberts, saxophonist. 7th Annual Interprofessional Research and Evidence-Based Practice Day

Please join MCHS colleagues at the 7th Annual Interprofessional Research and Evidence-Based Practice Day, scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, 2019, from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Mount Carmel East Siegel Center. MCHS residents and interprofessional colleagues will provide research presentations and the day will be highlighted with a keynote presentation by Scott R. Call for Peer Advisor Applicants

The Peer Advisor position at MCCN is designed to connect students with others who are encountering the challenges and adjustments to the program for the first time. The specific focus is to connect current students with those who are new to the college; this year that will also include intentional programming for students who are transferring from another institution. Peer Advisors serve as role models, sources of information, and positive representatives of MCCN. This position enables students to develop valuable skills in communication, leadership, organization, and creativity.

Interim Associate Dean, Graduate Program

Jami Nininger, MSN, RN, assistant dean of Distance Education, will also serve as interim associate dean for the Graduate Program, effective immediately. Jami will collaborate closely with the academic dean, Dr. Williamson, to ensure continuing success of this very important program. Jami’s office is located in CLE 103.

MCCN students celebrated Mardi Gras in style on Tuesday, March 5, with lunch and a mask-decorating contest! The winners of the mask-making contest were Cristy Cortez in first, Melissa Stilp in second and Audrey Rickard in third.

Ash Wednesday Celebrated at MCCN

Campus Ministry students along with Ellen O’Shaughnessy, DMin, director of Campus Ministry, distributed ashes to mark the official start of the 2019 Lenten season. Those who chose not to have the symbol of the ashes because the tradition was not familiar to them often chose to pray with those who did, which brought about in conversation what the ashes meant. What we do for Lent may be fasting, serving those in need, being patient with ourselves and/or being trusting that we are loved and forgiven each day so as to love and forgive others. The prophet Isaiah in the 58th chapter of the Bible writes, “…This rather is the fasting that I wish: releasing those bound unjustly, untying the thongs of the yoke; setting free the oppressed, breaking every yoke; sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless; clothing the naked when you see them, and not turning your back on your own. Then your light shall break forth like the dawn and your wound shall quickly be healed… Then the light shall rise for you in the darkness and the gloom shall become for you like midday.”
