It is with mixed emotions that we share with you the news that Mount Carmel College of Nursing President Ann Marie T. Brooks will be leaving Mount Carmel College of Nursing on May 15, 2020. While this is a loss for the College and Mount Carmel, we are happy for Dr. Brooks as she takes on a new role. She will be joining Coors & Associates as a senior advisor and will focus on a new Leadership Institute for Coors Leadership Capital. This exciting new and innovative leadership development program will combine leading practices, simulation and technology to enrich the leader’s tool box in managing the unexpected and becoming a catalyst for change.
As president of the College, Dr. Brooks focused on making the student experience the best it could be and spent time with students both in the classroom and in the clinical setting amplifying the importance of nursing and interprofessional practice. Throughout her tenure at the College, Dr. Brooks used every opportunity to align and integrate the mission and core values with the College’s legacy of academic excellence and service. Under her leadership, the College achieved full accreditation status with the Higher Learning Commission, the Ohio Board of Nursing and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Her energy, positivity and recognition of others was important to the College’s ability to grow, collaborate with others and prepare nurses as the most trusted partners in healthcare.
Dr. Brooks was scheduled to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Organization of Nurse Leaders on March 19, 2020, in Nashville, at their annual conference for her long history of leadership in nursing and healthcare. However, due to concerns about the coronavirus, the national meeting was cancelled, so other arrangements for receiving this honor are underway.
We will begin a national search for Dr. Brooks' successor immediately. Her last day at the College will be on May 15, 2020, and she will lead the Commencement activities. Upon her departure, Dr. Kathleen Williamson will provide interim leadership until a successor for Dr. Brooks has been selected.
