What inspired you to become a nurse?

There is a lack of good health care and equipment back home in Guinea. In addition, the excellent treatment that my mom and aunt received from the nurses after their severe car accident inspired me to become a nurse.

What is the best thing about Mount Carmel College of Nursing?

The best thing about Mount Carmel is they were the first to allow me to go to nursing school and work at the hospital. Before Mount Carmel, I applied to many nursing programs and hospital jobs when I lived in Dallas, Texas, but they never took a chance on me. However, when I moved to Columbus, Ohio, and applied to Mount Carmel, they immediately accepted and hired me. I will forever be grateful to Mount Carmel for that because it is my dream to become a nurse, and Mount Carmel is the bridge to making that dream a reality.

What are your goals for your nursing career?

My goal for my nursing career is to be the best nurse by giving optimal patient care, healing patients by the grace of Allah (God), and inspiring or encouraging patients to improve their lifestyle habits so they can live their best and healthy lives.

What advice would you give your younger self?

I would tell my younger self to trust the progress. I am one of the oldest nursing students in my nursing program, which is sometimes a little discouraging. I would tell my younger self to stay focused and love yourself unapologetically by showing up with your head up and dominating everything that you do and touch while enjoying every moment.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?

I would advise someone going into a nursing career to stay focused and not allow anyone to discourage them from following their dream. A nursing career is not for the weak. It is stressful, and you will not have time for fun and enjoyment. However, staying focused and working through it during that short period in nursing school will pay off in the long run. It’s better to live a brief, stressful life as a nursing student now and live an entirely rewarding life in the future.
