What inspired you to become a nurse?

Nursing is not just a profession; instead, nursing is a calling. I started my nursing career as an STNA, and the patients motivated and encouraged me to become a nurse due to the impact I made on them in the hospital. Therefore, I took the challenge to get out of my comfort zone and pursue this career as a nurse. I see nursing as my calling.

What is the best thing about Mount Carmel College of Nursing?

The college is known for its small class sizes, which enables more personalized attention from faculty. This close-knit environment helps students build strong relationships with their instructors, who are experienced professionals in the field. MCCN attracts students from diverse backgrounds, fostering a rich learning environment where students can learn from each other’s experiences and perspectives. The college values inclusivity and works to create a welcoming environment for all students.

What are your goals for your nursing career?

I plan to become a strong advocate for patients' rights, ethical care, and healthcare policy reform. I want to continuously improve clinical skills and knowledge to deliver the best possible care to patients. This includes staying updated on the latest medical research, treatments, and best practices in nursing.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Believe in your abilities, even when things get tough. Self-doubt is normal, but trust that you can handle challenges as they come. Confidence in yourself will carry you far. Don’t wait for significant milestones to feel accomplished. Celebrate the small victories along the way—they’re the building blocks of success. Recognizing your progress will keep you motivated and energized. Setting goals and working hard is great, but life doesn’t always go according to plan. Be open to new opportunities and willing to adapt. Sometimes, unexpected paths lead to the most rewarding outcomes.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?

Nursing is a rewarding but challenging career. It requires physical stamina, emotional resilience, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations. Be prepared for long hours, demanding shifts, and the emotional toll that caring for patients can take. It’s essential to be realistic about the challenges while embracing the rewards. Effective communication is crucial in nursing. You must communicate clearly with patients, families, doctors, and other healthcare professionals. Good communication helps ensure that patients receive the best care and that the healthcare team works efficiently.

No matter what happens in this life, remember that life is never a straightforward pathway. It is like a roller coaster, but with determination and perseverance, you will always see the light at the end of the tunnel.
