What inspired you to become a nurse?

I grew up in a family full of nurses. My mom was a Home Health Nurse, and she often let me tag along when she visited her patients. Seeing how much she cared for her patients, the relationships she built with them, and how fulfilled she was by being nurturing, compassionate, and of service to others, made a significant impact on me. It inspired me to look up to her and aspire to do the same.

What is the best thing about Mount Carmel College of Nursing?

I graduated with my BSN from a large university. What I enjoy most about MCCN is the intimate environment, where I don’t just feel like a number. I feel appreciated and valued by MCCN, and I know they genuinely want to see me succeed and support my future plans. The professors are experienced and knowledgeable, and I can trust that I am being prepared to be a confident and competent future nurse practitioner.

What are your goals for your nursing career?

My goal for my nursing career is to continually advance and improve. I never imagined I would go back to school and further my profession. However, after realizing how dedicated I am to serving others and my community, I’m glad I found value in staying committed to this profession. I aspire to be a provider, advocate, and representative for people with mental health disorders. I want to break the stigma surrounding mental health and work to make medications and treatments more accessible for everyone.

What advice would you give your younger self?

I would tell her, "trust the process" and "the hard work will be worth it." Nursing school was very challenging for me. I was not accepted the first time I applied. I faced some failures and setbacks even in my professional journey. But through all the failures and adversities, I became stronger and more resilient, which prepared me for the next steps in my career.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?

To be quite honest, nursing is not always what it appears to be. It can be hard, stressful, and exhausting. It takes a lot of commitment and sacrifice. However, if you believe you are pursuing your passion, it will be worth it. The rewards far outweigh the challenges. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made, and I couldn’t imagine being in another profession. My coworkers have become my friends and family. I get to meet people from all different parts of the world, cultures, and ethnicities, and I can be myself—someone who wants to help and serve those in need.
