Greetings!
February is an exciting month at MCCN!
- It was thrilling to witness and participate in the Second Degree Accelerated Program graduation ceremony on Friday, February 2. (see above) Congratulations all!
- February is Black History Month, the perfect time to take another look – or a first view – of a videolink featuring Regina Sallee Williams, PhD, RN, FAAN, who graduated in the Class of 1952, our first class to admit African American students. Dr. Williams’ delightful smile engages viewers as she tells the story of how her determination to overcome societal obstacles led her to Mount Carmel School of Nursing, the first intuition of higher learning to Columbus to admit students of color.
- Also for Black History Month, mark your calendar to attend the Annual Black History Lunch and Learn on Monday, February 12, featuring Frederic Bertley, PhD, COSI president and CEO. Spots are limited, so RSVP today by clicking here.
- I’m looking forward to seeing many of you for Mardi Gras fun on Feb. 13 (see below), and I’m planning to receive ashes on Feb. 14 – yes Valentine’s Day, which coincides this year on Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season (details below).
- And, on February 23 we will cheer for our junior and senior students as they take their nursing clinical final exams just before all students and faculty begin a well-deserved Spring Break on February 26. We look forward to seeing everyone back on March 2, ready to begin the finish to this academic year.
I’m delighted to share with you about the journey to transformation that MCCN has embarked upon. First, many thanks to those of you who participated in the Strategic Planning Survey in January. Your input is invaluable as we work with consultants and our Board of Trustees in developing a comprehensive strategic plan to guide us in preparing for enrichments to our programs and services so that we can accommodate the growth we anticipate in our bright future. We are all very excited about the many changes and enhancements that are coming to our campus as Mount Carmel West relocates inpatient services to the new hospital, Mount Carmel Grove City, later this year.
As we move ever closer to that future, I will keep you updated.
