Faculty, Doctor of Nursing Practice Program
What inspired you to become a nurse?
My inspiration to become a nurse was centered around my desire to serve and help others. I was hospitalized in high school and was mesmerized by the nurses that cared for me. They were kind, supportive, and helpful as I recovered. I knew then that I wanted to be like them and help people achieve the best health outcome. I took the required courses in high school to get to my goal and gained an academic scholarship to nursing school. Nursing was a calling to a service profession.
What do you love about teaching?
I love everything about teaching nursing...the students, the content, the best practices! I especially love to see students grow and become the best they can be and I thoroughly enjoy helping them to get to their goal. As a nursing educator, I am there for their success and that gives me immense joy and pleasure.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
Never, ever give up on a goal that you think is worthy. Put one foot in front of the other and move forward. You can and will reach the desires of your heart with perseverance. My nursing mentor encouraged me that "this too shall pass" and you will be successful.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?
Go for it! Nursing is the best profession, period. You can go anywhere and do anything you want. Nursing is the most trusted profession and people know that. Nursing is the best thing that happened to me, and I have loved every minute. I have been practicing for 49 years and I would do it all over again.
