Diversity is an integral component of college life and a core value at Mount Carmel College of Nursing. As a Catholic institution of higher learning founded by the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1903, we are committed to creating a culturally diverse and inclusive environment. Such an environment respects all students, staff and faculty as individuals who bring a diverse set of identities and experiences to our community.

This diversity includes, but is not limited to: religion, race, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, and marital, veteran or socioeconomic status, and represents the myriad voices and stories that are a part of our campus community.

To ensure that our campus community is welcoming, affirming, inclusive and supportive, we offer courses, co-curricular initiatives, and professional development workshops to students, staff and faculty that acknowledge, support and celebrate these diverse experiences.

By providing such programmatic initiatives, we demonstrate our commitment to our mission: “In the spirit of the Catholic tradition, we welcome a diverse population of students from all faiths, to prepare them academically and professionally as competent and compassionate nurse leaders, who are lifelong learners, and who possess the moral courage to continuously promote the health of individuals and communities.”

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council

MCCN is committed to addressing diversity, equity and inclusion in order to ensure that these values are embedded across the College. As a result of this, during the summer of 2020, MCCN introduced the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council as part of an effort to build these issues into the DNA of MCCN’s curriculum. The council has the authority to ensure that the mission and core values of MCCN are integrated throughout all operations of the enterprise. The council will also serve in an advisory role, observing and identifying areas where diversity, equity and inclusion may be better realized within the college of nursing.

The MCCN Council of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion offers a variety of Initiatives to foster effective discussion, learning, enlightenment and engagement.
