What inspired you to become a nurse?
My inspiration for becoming a nurse was my honest and true desire to lend a part of myself to another human being in need. I love that I get to connect with others and care for them in what can potentially be a very vulnerable moment in their life with no judgment. There was a time in life when I was not taking the best care of myself, and the drive to become a nurse pushed me to help myself so I could help others in return.
What is the best thing about Mount Carmel College of Nursing?
Hands down, my classmates! I have made lifelong friendships in this program that I could not be more thrilled about and will cherish as we all move through this program. It is so exciting to watch everyone as they all continue to grow. Also, the endless supply of coffee... there’s always a fresh cup somewhere!
What are your goals for your nursing career?
My goal for my nursing career is to be happy and find a unit that is the right fit for me, that allows me to feel passionate about the work I do. I am not exactly sure what that looks like for me yet, but I love that nursing offers me the opportunities to continuously learn, educate and evolve.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Comparison is the thief of joy. You should only compare yourself to where you want to be and take the actions necessary on getting there. It is okay to not have all the right answers—life is learning process, so look up and enjoy it!
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?
Figure out your "why!” This allows you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your passions, and the things that give your life meaning and purpose. Nursing can be overwhelming, challenging and exhausting at times, but having your "why" makes it all worth it.
