What inspired you to become a nurse?

My desire to pursue a career in nursing has been long-lived since my early youth. I have served those who were not only socially deprived but medically challenged individuals. The prospect of following in my mother’s twenty-year nursing career has consistently piqued my interest in becoming a nurse. Her zeal and ability to work under an immense amount of pressure has inspired me as a future nurse to emulate her commitment and endeavors to deliver exceptional medical care.

What is the best thing about Mount Carmel College of Nursing?

What are your goals for your nursing career?

I am originally from Chicago, IL and plan to return starting off my nursing career, ideally by working in the emergency department as an ER nurse. My career goals in nursing include providing safe and effective patient care. I also want to focus on developing strong clinical and leadership skills.

What advice would you give your younger self?

The advice I would give to my younger self is to BE YOURSELF. Being myself and not changing who I am for others around me has allowed me to embrace my passion and gain more self-confidence.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?

One of my favorite quotes from Beyoncé is, “If everything was perfect, you would never learn, and you would never grow.” This sentiment is especially important in the field of nursing, which can be quite challenging at times. I encourage those considering a career in nursing to take advantage of available resources, engage with peers, and reach out to their professors during challenging times. Most importantly, follow your heart.
