Kyle McMichael, BSN, RN, a graduate of MCCN, will speak Monday, September 22 at noon in the College Lounge on chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant protocol, m-Iodobenzylguanidine, which is part of a new treatment that includes very high doses of radiation for neuroblastoma, a cancer often found often in the abdomen of children.
He also will speak about HSV studies, where pediatric patients are injected with a live virus directly into tumors. HSV aims to only target malignant cells, not healthy cells like chemotherapy. McMichael also will explain how a nurse can help the child and family cope with the process of a new cancer diagnosis.
Hannah O' Handley, MSN, RN, PNP, also will have information on the student nurse externship program for summer education and employment opportunities for student nurses at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
